"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." -Marcel Proust
I'd like to share with you the simple yet life changing list I wrote when I was at one of the lowest points of my life. I was broke, my marriage was falling apart, I was homeless, my relationship with my Dad ended, I had my 8 month old son to care for.
This all happened within a few weeks and I found myself at an all time low. The joy of life was sucked out of me and I was struggling to find reasons to get out of bed in the morning besides to care for my son.
Is there anything in life worth living for? This was a question I found myself asking constantly. By some miracle I put pen to paper and started writing the answer. This was what I came up with.
I am Thankful for:
- my healthy body
- my beautiful, healthy son
- support from my family
- food, shelter, water
- the ocean
I was stunned at how this small simple list had such a life changing effect on me. Everytime I would remember the troubles I was having I tried my hardest to revert back to my list. Since that day I now use my Gratitude List on a daily basis.
Give it a go. Put pen to paper and make your very own Gratitude List. Use it in times of stress and if you practice getting into the habit of remembering it even when your feeling good it will make it easier for you to come back to when you need it most . It is such a powerful tool.
Has being grateful ever helped you in times of stress?
